Keep Crushed Concrete in the part of a California project where a firm base is needed below the visible surface. Seasonal rain can expose weak preparation beneath a driveway, parking pad, or access lane, especially when water is allowed to remain at the base. Its recycled concrete pieces are angular, and the fines mixed with them help the material tighten under compaction.
Plan drainage before covering the base so runoff has a path away from the work area. After the ground is prepared, install Crushed Concrete in courses, add a small amount of moisture when it is dry, and compact each course before adding the surface above. The finer particles fill voids between the broken concrete, while the rough faces engage and reduce movement. This makes it useful as a supporting layer rather than a finish chosen for appearance. Because it contains fines, it is not the right choice for pipe bedding, a clean stone bed, or a French drain; those applications call for washed, open-graded stone.

Common Uses
Driveway & Parking Pad Base
For a new or rebuilt driveway or parking area, crushed concrete provides a supporting layer beneath traffic. Place and compact it in lifts to create a solid foundation that helps limit ruts and potholes. It may remain exposed for driving, or driveway gravel can be placed over it for a more finished appearance.
Access Roads & Road Base
For construction entries, equipment areas, farm lanes, and private roads, crushed concrete provides a base layer. It supports heavy machinery and trucks, helping keep the route usable after rain.
Patio, Walkway & Pad Sub-Base
A compacted crushed-concrete layer distributes loads beneath pavers, walkways, sheds, and hot tub pads, helping the finished surface stay level. Compared with native clay, its coarse texture allows more water through, which can reduce water sitting below the surface. Place sand or screenings as a bedding layer before setting pavers.
Backfill & Fill
Raise low areas, build grade, or backfill around footings and behind retaining walls with crushed concrete structural fill. When compacted, its angular material forms a firm mass that is less likely to wash away or become muddy like soil fill.
Why Choose Crushed Concrete
Lower Cost Than Quarried Base
Because it is recycled rather than quarried, crushed concrete generally costs less per ton than crushed stone base. At every order size, ours is priced below our driveway gravel, which can make a difference on large driveways and access roads.
Forms a Firm Base
Compaction brings the angular fragments and fines together, using a roller or plate compactor. As the material settles, existing cement paste can help it bind, producing a dense layer that limits shifting, ruts, and washouts.
Recycled Material
Crushed concrete puts demolished concrete back to use rather than into a landfill, reducing demand for newly quarried stone. It provides the needed strength beneath a road or driveway.
Base and Fill Uses
Crushed concrete can serve as general fill, a base for driveways and parking pads, material under patios and sheds, and for access roads. A single delivery can cover much of the project's groundwork.
